“How I Cleared My Acne and Hyperpigmentation After 13 Years” is probably the most vulnerable post I’ve shared to date, because it is highlighting one of the biggest struggles and insecurities I faced for about half of my life. Please be kind. As scared as I am to share some of these photos, I am also choosing to find peace in knowing that if this can help at least one person like me, then it’s worth it. I WISH I had someone who shared the right products that would dramatically change my skin for the better years ago. I suffered the worst confidence and insecurity for years, and am still trying to work on the multitude of damage that that did to my self-esteem. If you struggle with acne, hyperpigmentation, or any skin condition- I feel you. Wholeheartedly, I do. I know your pain all too well.
It is my heart and my hope that if you’re reading this because you’re still trying to figure out how to clear your acne and hyperpigmentation issues, then you’ll find your answer here. I truly hope that what finally worked for me will work for you. This is not an ad or a sponsored post. Just 2 brands that I will now always be loyal to.
Before we get started, I want to take a moment to first share where my skin was before…
I dealt with acne, hyperpigmentation, texture, and blemish issues on my face, under my chin and jawline, my neck, and even (not pictured) my back, chest, and shoulders. All starting around age 13.
I tried dermatologists. Accutane. Pro Activ. Neutrogena. Bio Clarity. And so much more. These things either didn’t work at all, made my skin worse, or provided results that only lasted a short and temporary while. All I wanted was something to depend on that would fix my skin issues and give me results to last a lifetime.
Then, in 2018, I discovered Tula and thank God I did.
I first started using TULA back in September of 2018. Through blogging, I was fortunate to be offered the opportunity to try and test out their (new) acne clearing line before it was officially released to the public. I had just given up on using Bio Clarity after realizing it was causing my skin to look worse and not better. While feeling defeated and lost on how to clear up my skin after years of struggles, these TULA products came into my life at just the right time.
Yes, I even have a photo of my first ever TULA products, in their original packaging!
This is how my skin looked right before beginning my trial with Tula’s 3-step acne clearing line. No filters used.
So does Tula skincare actually work? Is it worth the hype?
14 years later from the 13-year-old me, who struggled with her skin, this is how she looks today…
Again, no filters are used on these images. This is just good natural lighting and my iPhone.

I know that Tula has created more acne clearing kits and products since the line that they sent me 2 years ago. However, I have not tried some of them, so I cannot give an honest review on the rest. If you’d like to see some of their other products that help fight against acne, you can find them all right here!
One last product that I want to share, which I started using maybe mid-2019, and that also played a major role in my clear skin journey is this. Beautycounter’s Counter+ Overnight Resurfacing Peel is something special and unique. I can not conclude this blog post without mentioning it. I would apply this maybe 3 times a week, at night before bed. You will wake up with smoother skin. Your facial texture will get better with time and consistent use of this product. This will help make your skin feel brand new. Just trust me. It works and is 100% worth the price! I’d buy it again and again. And again. This product is also clean and non-toxic, so it holds an extra special place in my heart.
I truly hope that you were able to find this post on how I cleared my acne, to be valuable. From someone who understands, I’m wishing you all the best in your fight to clearer skin. I am here for you if you need to talk to someone who understands or if you have any questions. I’ve got you! Feel free to message me via DM over on Instagram if it’s private, or you can leave a comment down below as always!
Lastly, please know that you ARE beautiful, you ARE worthy, and you ARE capable. I have cried countless times over my skin in the past and thought no one could ever love me because of my skin issues. And I was so wrong. Let this be your friendly reminder that your skin does not define you. Go be great and do great things! <3
